Driven to Read is a merit based reading program designed to encourage youngsters to increase their reading proficiency through the power of racing. Aimed at elementary age readers, kids in the program must read for 15 minutes to gain 1 mile on the track. At preset intervals young readers earn prizes in recognition of their accomplishments. The greater the mileage the greater the reward. Driven to Read visits schools to launch the program, bringing with them race cars, race haulers, and drivers, and uses a racing theme to inspire student participation. Driven to Read is active in all markets where the current national spokesperson Dusty Davis is participating in a NASCAR Series event.
At only 20 years, Dusty Davis has already accumulated ten years of racing experience. Beginning with racing karts, he moved on to Legends Cars at age 14, winning his first race. He continued racing karts, winning several national championships in the process. At age 16 he made his race debut in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series, where the rookie driver won 4 races and finished second overall in the championship. For the past two years, Davis has raced in select NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events and in 2012 made his debut in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. His career win total of over 80 races is only just the beginning for Davis who is working hard to ascend to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
